Paul Jackson came in fifth at the weekend’s super competitive 12 Towers Stand Up Paddle Ocean Race on the Gold Coast, Australia, after an hour long battle with fellow locals (and training partners) Jake Jensen and Beau O’Brian.
The Gold Coaster will be representing New Zealand (for some reason…) at the ISA World Stand Up Paddle Championship in a couple of weeks.

A strong start saw her lead for much of the race, but the Gold Coast local was eventually edged out by New South Wales’ Terrene Black.

Results from the 12 Towers Ocean SUP Race held on the Gold Coast, Australia.
Conditions were awesome, with a good tail wind kicking in right before the start of the race to make for some super fun downwinder conditions.
There was a fair bit of swell though, which made it pretty tough getting out the back to the start line (and even tougher getting in to the finish line…).

Seems like there’s been a big international SUP race every weekend the past few weeks. First it was Miami, then Perth, then San Diego.
This week it’s Australia’s Gold Coast that will be hosting many of the world’s best paddlers.
The 12 Towers Ocean SUP Race is happening this Saturday (4th Feb) from Coolangatta to Burleigh Heads (click here to check out the 14km course map).
