Fun Times In Mexico This Weekend: Hennessey’s World SUP Champs At Cabo

One of the original fixtures on the SUP racing circuit, the Hennessey’s World SUP Championships, is on again this weekend. The 2012 Champs have moved South from their traditional Californian home, all the way down to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico. This year the event has also joined forces with the Los Cabos Classic to make for a full on weekend of Stand Up Paddle racing.

Several of the world’s best paddlers will be in town and there’s a pretty sizeable prize purse of $16,500 on the line, so expect a very solid level of competition. As far as the races go, the highlights will be the 11 miler from Punta Gorda to Palmilla and the 4 mile Elite race, though seeing it’s Mexico, and it’s the beach, and there’s a couple of hundred stoked athletes in town… the real highlights will probably happen off the water.

So this is the official World Paddle Association (WPA) World Championships for SUP racing. Not to be confused with the Stand Up World Series, the ISA World Champs or the Molokai World Champs (…yeah, it’s getting kinda crowded).

The Hennessey’s event has been running longer than just about any other SUP race, so we’re looking forward to seeing a successful event this year. Plus of course we’ll have full results from the 2012 Hennessey’s SUP World Champs all weekend right here on SUPracer.com, so stick around. In the meantime check out essential details are below or relive last year’s event with the 2011 Hennessey’s World Champs results.
