Short little highlights reel (and a few interviews) from the super fun kids race in Bilbao last weekend. Always so inspiring to see the next generation having fun on the water!
BILBAO from above (DRONE footage)
Stunning footage from Bilbao thanks to our friends at Rapid SUP
BACK STORY: Rapid is a new brand from Ukraine, and the guys drove 3000km to be part of the events in Bilbao and Hossegor. Five minutes into the race in Bilbao their drone hit a bridge and crashed into the river; everyone assumed it was lost forever, but they found some goggles, went swimming and miraculously recovered the drone and the raw footage. Thanks for the extreme commitment to getting the shots, guys!

In brief: Michael Booth has flexed his muscles once again, breaking and then holding off an ultra-strong field of international talent to claim the fifth stop of The Paddle League World Tour and week 7 of the EuroTour here in the Basque city of Bilbao.
Boothy won the Iberdrola Bilbao SUP Challenge to cement his spot on top of the world rankings, however his compatriot Lincoln Dews gave the champ a fright with a lightning fast final two kilometres that saw him break away from the 11-man chase group and get within shouting distance of the powerhouse. But in the end Boothy’s lead was simply too big, which made it a race for second that Linc deservingly won. → READ MORE

The European Summer of SUP is seriously heating up, with the biggest three weeks of the year set to begin this weekend in the Basque Country of Spain.

One of the funnest parts of the SUP racing season, the EuroTour, has just announced its schedule for the 2018 European Summer of SUP. Featuring 10 races in 10 weeks across 8 different nations, and with everything from flat water racing to downwinders to beach races in iconic surf towns, this is the most diverse mix of conditions and destinations the Tour has ever seen.
Catering to both the pros and the average joes, the EuroTour has built itself into the largest (and did I mention: funnest?) tour in the sport over the past few years. Part race series, part adventure, part European summer holiday, these 10 weeks in Europe are always a highlight of the season. → READ MORE
As a mix of light rain and sporadic sunshine drifted in across the Baltic Sea and onto the sands Scharbeutz, Germany late Sunday morning, Australia’s Michael Booth could be seen doing what he does best: paddling away from a group of other world-class paddlers to record yet another win on the European Summer of SUP, aka the EuroTour.
With his victory at Scharbeutz on the weekend, Boothy added an exclamation point to an incredible European campaign that saw him win almost every major race en route to claiming the overall EuroTour champion’s title. Along the way, he defeated the likes of Connor Baxter, Titouan Puyo and a dozen or so more of the world’s best in addition to virtually all of Europe’s finest. And he did it in style. → READ MORE
Michael Booth has taken a virtually unassailable lead in the race for the 2017 EuroTour championship title, with the Aussie powerhouse claiming his second straight win at the Bilbao Paddle Challenge as key rivals Connor Baxter and Titouan Puyo faultered.
After a hectic start in front of Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum, where several of the main contenders were boxed out by a deep field of European dark horses, Boothy soon moved to the front and controlled much of the 14km course up and down the central city river. → READ MORE

And just like that, it’s summer.
With the sun starting to shine and the weather warming up across the Continent, the ‘European Summer of SUP’ officially begins this weekend with France’s classic, long-running SUP Race Cup in St. Maxime lighting up the French Riviera.
While the 2017 Tour has already had two regional stops, the big guns are only just starting to arrive, which means the EuroTour ‘Prime’ level races begin now. And you’ll be able to watch it all from a front row seat with SUP Racer’s signature Facebook Live streams. → READ MORE
And just like that, it’s summer.
Well, almost. The traditional barometer of the Summer of SUP, the EuroTour, gets an early start this year on the paradisaical Greek island of Crete, where this weekend’s “Agios Nikolaos on SUP” festival will transform the postcard-perfect town of the same name into the first of 12 Tour stops.
There’ll be a race somewhere in Europe virtually every weekend between now and the end of July, with the local heroes, European stars and international heavyweights battling it out in what is arguably the funnest part of the season. → READ MORE
Two weeks ago, I sent out a survey to each of the world’s top-ranked paddlers asking which events they’d be competing in this year. The goal was to paint a picture of the biggest races in the world, which I think is not only an interesting insight for everyone in the sport to analyse, it also helps me to set clear ‘star ratings’ that will produce an ever more accurate World Rankings leaderboard.
Here are the results… → READ MORE
