France’s Titouan Puyo and Olivia Piana have triumphed in the long distance race here at the Oxbow EuroSUP Championship in Lacanau this afternoon, repeating their gold medal performances from Monday’s course race to seal a memorable week for the host nation.
Under blazing-hot blue skies, Titou edged out his very impressive young compatriot Arthur Arutkin, while the Danish Viking, Casper Steinfath, once again had to settle for third in what was a mirror of Monday’s podium. → READ MORE
In brief: Titouan Puyo and Olivia Piana have made it a golden start to the Oxbow EuroSUP Championships for Team France, claiming victories in the men’s and women’s course races respectively, with Arthur Arutkin finishing a close runner-up to make it a clean sweep for the host nation.
With small waves but plenty of wind making for a bumpy race here in the surf mecca of Lacanau, Olivia proved far too strong for the other women, paddling clear to win by three minutes from the rapidly-improving Susak Molinero (Spain) and the always consistent Marie Buchanan (England). → READ MORE
The 2016 ESF European SUP Championships, aka EuroSUP, aka The Euros, officially began here in Lacanau, France today, with the opening ceremony giving the approximately 13 assembled nations a chance to fly their national flags before competition begins tomorrow.
The Euros, which are basically a European-only version of the ISA Worlds, are happening from Monday to Thursday in the laid-back surf mecca of Lacanau, and will feature short and long distance racing alongside SUP surfing. → READ MORE
Arthur Arutkin (Fanatic) and Olivia Piana (Starboard) won yesterday’s Oxbow SUP Challenge at home in France, with the race acting as the official warm-up event for the inaugural “EuroSUP” championships (aka ‘The Euros’) that begin on Monday.
Arthur, who will be representing Team France here in Lacanau over the next week, edged out the former king of European paddling, Eric Terrien, who has enjoyed something of a return to form this season. Coming home third but very unlucky not to be any higher on the podium was Italian gun Leo Nika. → READ MORE
Europe is set to get its own version of the ISA Worlds this summer, with the European Surfing Federation (ESF) getting ready to announce its inaugural European Championship of Stand Up Paddling. The ESF, also known as Eurosurf, is planning the event for June 18th-22nd in Lacanau, France in association with the French Surfing Federation.
