Ching finished 40 seconds ahead of Mitchell over the 5 mile course, while the rest of the Top 15 was a virtual who’s who of Stand Up Paddle racing (and this is despite the event being held the same weekend as Molokai…). Stand Up Paddle racing in the Midwest seems to be really taking off, with events almost every weekend. The charge is being led by the 10-race “Midwest SUP Championship Series”, which this weekend headed to Holland, Michigan for the 3rd Annual Great Lakes SUP Classic.
It was the Jamie & Larry Show, with two big stars of the SUP racing world, 10x World Champ Jamie Mitchell and 3x Olympian Larry Cain, travelling to Lake Michigan for the race. They didn’t disappoint either, proving too strong for a bunch of hungry locals in the Elite 6 Mile Race to take the top two spots. → READ MORE
The 10x World Champ won the Elite 14′ class ahead of local Mark Temme with J.P. Foschi taking out the 12’6″ class. Meanwhile in the women’s race Stephanie Shideler dominated, beating home not just the other girls but also three quarters of the men as well. → READ MORE
The 2010 Battle of the Paddle Elite Race at Dana Point became an instant classic; Danny Ching cemented his place as a star of the sport by stealing the crown from defending champ Jamie Mitchell, Candice Appleby continued her winning streak on the women’s side, there were enough waves to ensure plenty of chaos, and the whole thing was caught on tape. The Quiksilver Waterman Collection’s Waikiki Paddle Festival has just wrapped up. It was an epic event with awesome paddle racing all weekend.
The big winners from the weekend were C4’s Travis Grant (1st Survivor/3rd Long Distance) and Gillian Gibree (1st Survivor/1st Waterwoman Challenge).

The Watermans Paddle For Humanity, one of the biggest charity SUP race series going round, has gone all in this year.
First they upped the ante by announcing 2012 would see a five race series across the States, and now they’ve released a stellar lineup for the opening race on April 28th @ Dana Point.
Chuck Patterson is, according to the official press release, “headlining” the event. Not sure when stand up paddlers became rock stars, but it’s always cool to see the big man in action.
