Maui, Florida and Italy: it’s another Paddle League “Triple Header” weekend

It’s another big weekend for The Paddle League with three stops around the world, including a World Tour specialty event on Maui, a classic event in Florida and the new one in Italy.

The headline event is certainly the 10th Annual OluKai Ho’olaule’a, where a pretty big chunk of the world’s best will be praying for favourable winds along the world famous Maliko downwind run (Friday night update: the wind isn’t looking great but there should be a few bumps out there).

The support acts are the classic Key West Classic, an event that’s been going longer than just about any other and which has become a staple of the regional calendar, while the third piece of the triple header weekend is the Florence Paddle Games, a new event that’s quickly attracted a lot of interest in Italy.

The Paddle League will have rolling updates all weekend via Instagram Stories and Facebook page.

Key WestIn brief: Vinnicius Martins from Team JP Australia has taken out the Key West Classic for the second time in 12 months, outlasting Olympic veteran Larry Cain after nearly two hours of paddling around the windswept 12-mile course.

With the Florida Keys producing its signature bumpy conditions for the 20th annual edition of this classic race, the ever-smiling Brazilian showed that his top six finish at Carolina last week was no fluke, with Vinni pulling away from the field to not only take out the SUP division but also beat home every one of the outrigger paddlers.   → READ MORE

The JP Australia team rider rebounded from a disappointing finish at Carolina last week, crossing the line ahead of Kelly, who finished top five at Carolina and was our pre-race Key West favourite, and Larry, who was the two-time defending champion at this event.   → READ MORE
