I’m stoked to announce we’ve partnered with the crew at SIC to highlight one of the biggest, best and funnest parts of the SUP racing season: Downwind Month.

When it comes to paddling, I’m convinced there’s nothing better than riding bumps and catching endless glides out in the ocean. It’s surely the pinnacle of not only SUP racing but stand up paddling in general. Watching those masters of the ocean navigate their giant boards along epic stretches of the Hawaiian coastline is almost hypnotic. The OluKai Ho’olaule’a is one of the premier events on the SUP racing circuit. It’s got everything: Top paddlers, top location (Maui’s famous Maliko downwind run), big prize money, great organisation and perhaps most important of all, the OluKai SUP race has hundreds of competitors. Boss Man’s note: Connor Baxter won yesterday’s massive OluKai SUP Race on Maui in impressive style, finishing clear of Downwind King Dave Kalama, arch rival Kai Lenny and a stack of other elite paddlers.  The win gives Connor back-to-back OluKai titles and continues his stellar form in the first half of 2013, where he’s been virtually unbeatable.

Only 48 Hours Til OluKai 2013…

OluKai videoOne of the best events on the SUP race calendar, the OluKai Ho, is almost ready to take over Maui’s famous Maliko run. We’re just 48 hours from seeing many of the world’s finest downwind paddlers battle it out for the $15k in cash and glory.

The 2012 race was a cracker, with Connor Baxter and Andrea Moller defeating a star-studded field, and this year the two will start as favourites again. OluKai 2013The 2013 OluKai SUP Race is just three days away, with one of the biggest events on the SUP Racing calendar set to draw hundreds of paddlers to the world famous Maliko Gulch for a downwind run.

The OluKai Ho’olaule’a is an awesome event, in an awesome location. Saturday sees the 8-mile SUP race from Maliko Gulch to Kanaha Beach, while on Sunday the OC-1 paddlers will tackle the same course. There’s a total of $15,000 up for grabs, with prize money split evenly between men and women.   → READ MORE
