One of the staples on the early season, international racing calendar, the Punta Sayulita Classic in Mexico, is set to return after being briefly put on ice. Until recently it looked like the long-running event would be shelved for 2015, however thanks to the crew behind the excellent new Mexico SUP Tour, the beloved race will run once again.
The 2015 Punta Sayulita Classic dates are March 20-22, with the usual combo of a BOP-style race and distance event on offer. And as if the lure of a holiday in Mexico wasn’t enough, there’s also $10,000 prize money courtesy of the Punta Sayulita company. → READ MORE
Another great video has come out of the Punta Sayulita Classic, which was held down Mexico way earlier in the month. This clip comes from the Paddle Surf Mexico team and features a whole lot of aerial goodness.
Really, I don’t think you can go wrong with a drone video these days. Everything just looks better from a bird’s eye perspective. It also helps if your race has waves. Waves + Drone = Awesome SUP video every time. → READ MORE
Fun little clip of the SIC crew’s recent trip to Mexico for the Punta Sayulita Classic, where team riders Georges Cronsteadt and Lina Augaitis dominated the event. The two world beaters each made a clean sweep, taking out their respective Elite and Distance Races.
As always with SIC clips there’s some cool aerial shots and great race footage mixed in with some words from the paddlers themselves, so sit back and enjoy (and check out the carange at the 55 second mark…). → READ MORE
Results are in from the Punta Sayulita Classic in Mexico and it looks like the weekend belonged to Team SIC. Taking out both events (the Surf Race on Saturday and 10k Distance Race on Sunday) was Georges Cronsteadt of Tahiti, while teammate Lina Augaitis from Canada was too strong on the women’s side.
In the Surf Race, Georges was the only paddler to make it clean to the first buoy, as a set swept through the field right after the start. From there, the Tahitian big guy controlled the waves and the race to finish around half a minute clear. Sayulita locals Ryan Helm and Fernando Stalla filled the men’s podium, with Ryan overtaking Fernando on the sprint up the beach to the line. Meanwhile Shelby Dela Rosa Taylor and Kristin Thomas took second and third respectively on the women’s. → READ MORE

It’s that time of year again, where it seems like almost every weekend there’s an international SUP race happening somewhere in the world. Last week it was Peru, next week it’s Patagonia, but this weekend all eyes will be on Sayulita, Mexico for the Punta Sayulita Classic.
Plenty of familiar international names will be battling local guns such as Fernando Stalla and Ryan Helm in the races, while there will also be an appearance by ocean legend Gerry Lopez.
Think of it as a smaller version of the Battle of the Paddle, except instead of being all serious and hardcore, this event has a totally laid back, party atmosphere happening all weekend. Wish we were there… → READ MORE
