Event founder and organiser Chris Brackett announced the news this morning, which will be met with disappointment from the hundreds of paddlers that made the annual trek to enjoy a huge festival of paddling surrounded by Lake Tahoe’s natural beauty. → READ MORE

Now here’s a different race recap video for you. Watch Chase Kosterlitz tell the story of his weekend up at Race The Lake of the Sky, his last race before wife Sarah gives birth to their first child (and one he performed pretty solidly in).
This isn’t your standard, full-of-action-shots kind of edit. Definitely a little unique. But everyone always sees what happens on the water so I think it’s cool to look behind the scenes and get some insights from one of the best. → READ MORE
In what has become a true festival of stand up paddling, Race The Lake again attracted hundreds of competitors to one of the most scenic paddling destinations on the planet. As in years past, the crowd was an interesting mix of first timers, weekend warriors and a few very high profile international stars of the sport. → READ MORE
Since last week’s announcement that the Battle of the Paddle has been cancelled, at least for 2015 and perhaps indefinitely, the stand up paddling world has been asking one question: What’s going to fill the massive hole left by the Super Bowl of SUP?
The answer is sitting right in front of us… → READ MORE
Here’s a really good highlights reel from the massive Race The Lake Of The Sky event, which was held up at Lake Tahoe a few weeks back and attracted hundreds of paddlers from far and wide.
Race The Lake Of The Sky, aka the Feel Good Race Of The Summer, seems to be quickly becoming one of the races to attend. It has a grassroots vibe to it but still attracts plenty of elite talent. It’s kinda like California’s answer to the Carolina Cup. → READ MORE
Saturday saw over 300 paddlers race in the El Dorado 5 miler while Sunday was the big one: The 14 mile Emerald Bay distance race, which featured more than 150 serious competitors.
To the surprise of nobody, Danny Ching swept the weekend, winning both the 5 and 14 mile races. The 404 front man was never seriously challenged in the 14 foot class, at one stage looking like he might even keep pace with the Unlimited leaders as well. Kai Lenny had been due to race, however he was a last minute withdrawal due to injury. Click through for the results… → READ MORE
One of the races I can’t wait to get to this Northern Summer is the Race The Lake of the Sky up at Tahoe. It’s happening at the end of June (28th-29th) and will no doubt feature some pretty big names alongside hundreds of stoked out weekend warriors. Yet it won’t be the lure of a big cash prize that draws the elite paddlers to Lake Tahoe, because Race The Lake of the Sky is offering a prize purse of exactly zero dollars this year.
The zero dollar prize purse is no different to what the 2012 and 2013 Race The Lake events offered, so why exactly is it news-worthy this year? Well here’s where it gets interesting this time round: organisers were actually offered $10,000 by an outside group to put up as prize money, however they decided to stick to their traditions and keep Race The Lake as a grassroots Stand Up Paddling event, rather than offer a big cash purse and turn it into some sort an “elite” race. Or in other words: The organisers said no to $10k because they felt it was in the best interests of the event. That’s bold… → READ MORE
The 2014 Race The Lake of the Sky will happen on the weekend of June 27th-29th. The actual racing takes place on both Saturday and Sunday, while there’s a VIP party on the Friday night. Formats will probably look similar to last year, which saw middle distance, long distance and kids’ races, as well as the epic SUP Cross event (which features actual starting gates that are permanently fixed in the water). → READ MORE

The weekend kicked off with the El Dorado 5 Miler, where Thomas Maximus claimed line honours in a time of 57 minutes 33 seconds. Jay Wild was the fastest of the 14 footers, very narrowly defeating Anthony Vela, while Candice Appleby took out the women’s race ahead of up-and-coming Floridian Bailey Rosen. → READ MORE
By all accounts, the 2012 Race The Lake of the Sky was an awesome stand up paddle event. Good racing, good weather, good people. I’m sure it’ll go down as one of the top SUP races of 2012 for many of the paddlers who made the trip to Lake Tahoe at the end of June.
But if you missed out on the fun, don’t worry; the Race The Lake of the Sky 2013 has just been announced. The SUP race returns to Lake Tahoe on 29th & 30th June, 2013. It’s already locked in our 2013 SUP Race schedule (yep, our calendar is filling up 12+ months in advance these days), so mark the date. → READ MORE
