RESULTS: Hal Rosoff Classic At The Newport Aquatic Center

Hal Rosoff Classic stand up paddle raceFull results from today’s Hal Rosoff Classic at the Newport Aquatic Center in California.

The 5.5 mile (9km) Short Course race was won by Thomas Maximus on his unlimited, with Daniel Russell narrowly edging out Chance Fielder to claim the 14′ division. Chuck Glynn was 5th over the line but the fastest of the 12’6 paddlers.

Meanwhile in the women’s, Shae Foudy put in a massive effort to claim both the division and overall victory.   → READ MORE

RESULTS: The Hanohano Race Attracts Over 500 Paddlers (And OMG That Board..!)

World's longest SUP board The Ark HanohanoResults are in from today’s massive Hanohano Huki Ocean Challenge race down in Mission Bay, San Diego. The Hanohano race, now in its 19th year, is one of the real gems on the racing calendar and always draws a big crowd. This event seems much more about having fun and getting out on the water than any kind of serious elite competition. It’s one of those great community races that give our sport such a great foundation.

The Hanohano always attracts a stellar crowd, however this year may have been a new record as 440 paddlers hit the Short Course (including over 300 on Stand Up Paddle boards).   → READ MORE

Zane And Fiona Win At Huntington As The Blue Crash Helmets Return

US SUP Tour Huntington Beach stand up paddle raceThe last stop of the US SUP Tour race series was held in Huntington today. With solid little waves and an elite crew that are in town for Battle Month, the event offered up some pretty good action.

After a few rounds of racing (and countless buoy turn carnage pics), coming out on top were Zane Schweitzer and Fiona Wylde. Zaniac edged out Mo Freitas, Bicho Jimenez and Fernando Stalla, while Fiona Wylde was too good for Shae Foudy, Candice Appleby and Halie Harrison.   → READ MORE

FULL RESULTS: Danny Ching Dominates Race The Lake Of The Sky (The ‘Feel Good Race Of The Summer’)

Lake Tahoe Race The Lake of the SkyRace The Lake of the Sky. Lake Tahoe, California. It’s the Feel Good Race Of The Summer and this year attracted hundreds of paddlers for a massive, grassroots celebration of the sport we love.

Saturday saw over 300 paddlers race in the El Dorado 5 miler while Sunday was the big one: The 14 mile Emerald Bay distance race, which featured more than 150 serious competitors.

To the surprise of nobody, Danny Ching swept the weekend, winning both the 5 and 14 mile races. The 404 front man was never seriously challenged in the 14 foot class, at one stage looking like he might even keep pace with the Unlimited leaders as well. Jamie Mitchell, Shae Foudy Win The Santa Monica Pier Paddleboard Race

Santa Monica Pier SUP Race 4Jamie Mitchell and Shae Foudy have taken out the Pier Paddleboard Race in Santa Monica today, beating home a solid field of paddlers in what is fast becoming an iconic event in SoCal.

The Santa Monica Pier Paddle is the race responsible for *that* photo sequence in 2013, when the event was run in very solid surf and carnage was the order of the day. JM, a big wave surfer by trade, probably would have fancied his chances even more if there was a similar swell for this year’s race, however conditions appeared to be a lot mellower and more welcoming for paddlers today.

Kids Take Centre Stage As Hobie Hennessey’s Waterman’s Challenge Returns SUP Racing To Doheny

Hobie Hennessey's raceEarlier today a small but classy field of paddlers descended on one of SUP racing’s traditional homes, Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California. The 2014 Hobie Hennessey’s Waterman’s Challenge was a two-race event, combining a 5 miler with an elite surf race to crown the overall winners. Conditions were picture perfect for a SUP race, with sunny skies, dead calm wind and small but fun waves peeling into Doheny.

After combining results from the two disciplines, Anthony Vela and Candice Appleby came out on top. There were also solid performances from the likes of Brandi Baksic, Team USA star Shae Foudy, Sean Pangelinan and Ryan Murphy (edit: and Brennan Rose/Javier Jimenez).
