Boothy helped control the pace in the lead pack along with Titou, Georges Cronsteadt, Kai Lenny and Vinni Martins, before breaking away with roughly 3km left in the 17km course. The race proved to be a grueling affair, with an almost complete lack of wind and sunny blue skies draining paddlers both physically and mentally.   → READ MORE

This was the scene at the 12’6 French National Titles that were held in Hossegor on the weekend, where Arthur Arutkin and Olivia Piana survived a solid chunk of the Atlantic Ocean to win the coveted Beach Race.

In the same month the WSL was in town for the Quiksilver Pro, Hossegor also provided pumping conditions for the nationals, with 4-6ft waves making this less of a race and more of a spectacle.   → READ MORE

Titouan Puyo Outlasts Arthur Arutkin in France; New Downwind Star Unearthed

titouan-puyo-stand-up-paddle-boardingTitouan Puyo won the 14′ French Downwind Championships last week, edging out fellow world-beater Arthur Arutkin and a new name to watch, Clément Colmas, to claim the Presqu’ile Paddle Race.

Titou showed vintage form in the moderate downwind conditions, pulling away from the field to win by a clear margin. The event followed the popular new “Double Downwind” format, with a run on Saturday and another on Sunday before times were combined to produce the overall results.    → READ MORE

Under blazing-hot blue skies, Titou edged out his very impressive young compatriot Arthur Arutkin, while the Danish Viking, Casper Steinfath, once again had to settle for third in what was a mirror of Monday’s podium.   → READ MORE

Titouan Puyo and Arthur ArutkinIn brief: Titouan Puyo and Olivia Piana have made it a golden start to the Oxbow EuroSUP Championships for Team France, claiming victories in the men’s and women’s course races respectively, with Arthur Arutkin finishing a close runner-up to make it a clean sweep for the host nation.

Battle of the Brands – Lost Mills Edition: Titouan Puyo’s Heroics Help Team NSP Edge Past Naish

Following the big Battle of Bavaria on Saturday, there’s been plenty of movement on the Battle of the Brands leaderboard. The big news is that NSP has edged past Naish to take over the number 2 ranking, with Titouan Puyo putting in a heroic performance on the weekend to defend his Lost Mills points from 2015.

Titou finished runner-up at the Lost Mills last year but almost didn’t race on the weekend after battling illness all week. But not only did he take his place on the start line, he battled all the way to the finish with Michael Booth and Connor Baxter, ensuring he held onto almost all of his points from 2015 and allowing NSP to move past the yellow boards from Maui.

Other big movers include Team Hobie, who’s been very well represented on the EuroTour so far, and Team Mistral, who crack the Top 15 thanks to big efforts from Seychelle Hattingh and Steeve Teihotaata. Take a look at the full Battle of the Brands Leaderboard…

Sonni’s victory makes it five wins in five weeks, a streak that stretches right back to last month’s OluKai race on Maui, while Boothy’s triumph reinforces his meteoric rise and growing reputation as one of the men to beat on the international scene this year. Air France Paddle FestivalSteeve Teihotaata has taken out the 2016 Air France Paddle Festival in Tahiti, defeating hot favourite Titouan Puyo as well as fellow Tahitian titans Rete Ebb, Georges Cronsteadt and Tamarua Cowan to announce himself as a genuine contender on the international stage.

Following two hours of downwind and flat water paddling around Tahiti’s north-west coast, and after a close battle first with both Titou and Rete, Steeve produced an amazing performance over the final kilometre, pulling clear to win in a time of 1:58:17, one minute clear of a tight race for second.   → READ MORE
